MLS have noted that an announcement is due this Spring on their re-aligned plans for expansion in both the "2005 and 2006 seasons". MLS commissioner Don Garber's expansion plans were made public at the end of last season, as he confirmed that two teams will be joining the US top flight in 2005. Chivas USA - who are still to confirm where they will play their matches - will join in 2005, alongside another team. more details | go to article

An injury to one of the Dallas Burn's best players overshadowed a solid preseason victory over the weekend, as striker Jason Kreis suffered a bad reaction to his troublesome knee. Coming back from a torn ACL in his knee, long-time Burn striker limped off after coming on as a halftime substitute. After trying to run the injury off, Kreis was taken off by head coach Colin Clarke in the 4-0 victory over the University of Memphis. more details | go to article

While quiet as of late on the MLS expansion front, Houston had a meeting of the minds late last week regarding bringing a team to the region. On the southern edge of Montgomery County, north of the city of Houston, the panel proposed an area to build a new stadium that would house a prospective MLS franchise. However, the panel admitted that the move for a new team in the area lacks two things at the present time - a political "leader" to spearhead the move for a stadium, and an ownership group for the team. more details | go to article
SJ, LA take positives towards season

Despite Friday's 2-1 victory by the Los Angeles Galaxy over the San Jose Earthquakes, both teams took positive results with less than three weeks before the start of the MLS season. While the Galaxy took the win behind second-half goals from Arturo Torres and Carlos Ruiz, the defending champions returned from their stint from Spain's La Manga tournament with a good result. The Earthquakes are now in Costa Rica, ahead of the first leg in the CONCACAF Champions Cup that is to be played on Wednesday. more details | go to article

Cleveland's mission of entering MLS as an expansion team appears to be on track for 2006, with the all-important stadium issues drawing ever-closer to a secured deal. The Columbus Crew completed their preseason trip of Spain unbeaten with a 4-0 thrashing of Barcelona's reserves last night. Barca's "B" side plays in the Spanish Second Division, but the Crew made short work of the Catalan side in albeit a meaningless friendly. Columbus' attack looks to be in midseason form, with the partnership of Edson Buddle and Jeff Cunningham contributing two goals and two assists in the victory. more details | go to article

Colorado general manager Dan Counce has released a statement from the city of Antequera, Spain where the team is currently participating in the third and final leg of their 2004 preseason tour. The New Jersey town of Pequannock approved the start of building of a new practice facility and offices for the MetroStars on Tuesday. The first stage of building is just the training complex, but that is supposed to be the centre of what is to become a sprawling complex that will include a series of fields, athletic facilities, and in preliminary plans a hotel and restaurants. more details | go to article
