The Fire came out at the short end of the Hall of Fame game, losing to MetroStars Monday afternoon at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, NY. It is rare that both teams will walk off the pitch feeling good about a result. The Columbus Crew defeated the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night 1-0 at Soldier Field to clinch the Eastern Conference title and set a new league record for most games unbeaten with 16. Herron was given the honor after he provided both goals in the Fire's 2-0 win over New England on Saturday, which gave the club an advantage in the fight for the final playoff in the Eastern Conference. The proposed Fire stadium in Bridgeview will be moved to another location in order to ensure that the facility opens in time for 2006.
